Last Thursday, when our friends, the W's were in town, Lisa and I spent an evening on the strip. Our husbands would probably rather have their toenails removed with pliers then go to the strip, but we had fun. My favorite shows in Vegas (well, the only one's I have seen) are Cirque de Soleil shows. About 5 years ago, Mr. J and I had the opportunity to see O (thanks Dad!) when Mr. J was here doing some training and in October, I saw Ka with my mom and sisters. Both when we saw Ka and this time for Mystere, I have been able to use the 50% off military discount.. which is fabulous! To get this discount, you just have to call the ticket office and tell them you want the discount and the person who pays for the tickets has to show their military ID.
Since we had some time to waste after we picked up the tickets and before the show, Lisa and I got to see the Treasure Island pirate show. I had seen this when I was younger and remember it being quite cool. However, now the show includes scantily clad "sirens" and pirates with no shirts on. They dance around singing a Britney Spear-ish type song. Then we walked through the Venetian. It was fun to see the canal boats and the drivers in their striped shirts. That led us into the Palazzo where we saw The Living Garden exhibit. That was pretty entertaining.
The show was great! The acrobatics in it were amazing. The performers have a way of making all they do look so easy. After the show, we drove to the Bellagio. We walked through Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The current theme is Chinese New Year. This is one of my favorite things to do on the strip. I wasn't a huge fan of this theme cause it didn't use a lot of flowers, but the panda bears were cute. We then had a fancy, delicious dessert at Jean Philippe, a European style pastry. They make the most delicious crepes! I had a banana foster one, yum! After that we went out and saw the Fountains of Bellagio. This is another free show that is pretty amazing. The fountains "dance" to the music. It's usually a different song each time I have seen it. I love the Frank Sinatra songs, but my favorite one I have seen so far is Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be American."
